Scott Griffin, doing business as The Unofficial Mayor (collectively, “The Unofficial Mayor,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), operates theunofficialmayor.com and any pages that link to this Privacy Policy (the “Site”). This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use and disclose it, and the choices available to you.

By using the Site, you acknowledge the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with these practices, please do not use the Site or submit personal information through it.

1. Personal Information We Collect

Information you provide

We may collect the following information when you become a constituent, request a free campaign button, look up constituent information, join our email list, contact us, or submit a partnership inquiry:

Contact and identity information, such as first name, last name, email address, and mailing address.

Location information you provide, such as city and state. We do not intend to publish your street address.

Constituent information, such as your assigned constituent ID number, signup date, and fulfillment status.

Partnership information, such as your company, agency, affiliation, role, inquiry details, and other information you choose to provide.

Communications and preferences, including messages you send us, marketing choices, and unsubscribe requests.

Information collected automatically

When you use the Site, we and our service providers may automatically collect technical and usage information, including IP address, browser and device type, operating system, referring and exit pages, pages viewed, links clicked, approximate location derived from IP address, date and time of access, cookie identifiers, and similar online activity data.

Cookies and similar technologies

We may use cookies, pixels, tags, local storage, and similar technologies to operate the Site, remember preferences, measure traffic and engagement, understand campaign performance, prevent fraud or abuse, and support marketing. Google Tag Manager may be used to manage other tags; the tags deployed through it may collect information as described in this Policy.

We may use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the Site. Google Analytics may collect device, browser, approximate location, and interaction data through cookies or similar technologies. We will not intentionally send names, email addresses, mailing addresses, or other directly identifying form data to Google Analytics.

We may use the Meta Pixel or related Meta business tools to measure visits and conversions, build audiences, and evaluate or deliver advertising. These tools may allow Meta to receive cookie identifiers, IP address, device and browser information, page and event activity, and information about interactions with the Site. Meta processes information under its own terms and privacy policy.

2. How We Use Personal Information

We may use personal information to:

• Process constituent registrations, assign constituent IDs, and maintain the constituent list.
• Fulfill and mail free campaign buttons and send related confirmations or service messages.
• Operate the constituent lookup feature and city-level constituent map as described below.
• Send marketing emails, news, campaign updates, community content, and promotional messages when permitted by law and consistent with your choices.
• Respond to partnership inquiries, provide requested information or a rate sheet, and communicate with brands, agencies, and other potential collaborators.
• Analyze Site traffic, content performance, advertising, and audience engagement.
• Maintain, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the Site and related systems.
• Detect and prevent fraud, spam, abuse, security incidents, and violations of our Terms.
• Comply with law, enforce agreements, and protect our rights and the rights of others.

We do not use your mailing address for marketing mail unless we separately tell you and obtain any consent required by law. We use mailing addresses primarily to fulfill the free campaign button and administer the constituent program.

3. Constituent Map and Lookup

The Site may display a branded map showing cities where constituents are located. The map is intended to use city-level information only. It is not intended to display street addresses, precise geolocation, email addresses, or individual household locations.

The Site may also allow a person to enter an email address to retrieve a limited constituent record. A matching result may display the constituent’s first name, last initial, state, and constituent ID number. Because anyone who knows or enters the matching email address may be able to view that limited result, do not register if you are not comfortable with this use. Contact us at scott@believebolder.com to request correction or removal from the lookup feature, subject to applicable law and reasonable verification.

4. How We Disclose Personal Information

We may disclose personal information to the following categories of recipients for the purposes described in this Policy:

• Service providers that support hosting, website forms, email delivery and marketing, analytics, advertising measurement, data storage, mapping, button fulfillment, security, and technical operations. These may include Mailchimp, Google, Meta, hosting providers, form providers, and fulfillment vendors.
• Scott’s authorized team members, partnership manager, agencies, contractors, and professional advisors who need the information to operate the Site, fulfill requests, or respond to inquiries.
• Government authorities, courts, law enforcement, or other parties when we believe disclosure is required by law or reasonably necessary to protect rights, safety, security, or the integrity of the Site.
• A buyer, successor, or other party involved in a merger, financing, reorganization, sale of assets, or similar business transaction, subject to appropriate protections.
• Other parties when you direct us to disclose information or give us consent.

5. No Sale of Personal Information

We do not sell or rent personal information for money. We also do not provide your constituent signup information or partnership inquiry information to unrelated third parties for their own direct marketing.

We may disclose online identifiers and Site activity to analytics and advertising providers, including Google or Meta, as described above. Some privacy laws may define certain advertising-related disclosures as a “sale,” “sharing,” or use for targeted advertising even when no money is exchanged. Where applicable, you may opt out through the Site’s “Your Privacy Choices” link, cookie settings, a recognized browser-based opt-out signal, or by contacting scott@believebolder.com.

6. Marketing Communications

If you sign up to receive marketing emails, we may send news, community updates, promotions, partnership announcements, and other marketing content. You may unsubscribe at any time by using the unsubscribe link in an email or contacting scott@believebolder.com. We may still send non-promotional messages needed to fulfill your button request, respond to an inquiry, confirm a privacy request, or provide important service information.

7. Your Choices and Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live and whether an applicable law covers us, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, or deletion of certain personal information; obtain a copy of certain information; opt out of certain targeted advertising, sales, or sharing; limit certain uses of sensitive personal information; or appeal a decision regarding a privacy request.

To submit a request, email scott@believebolder.com with the subject line “Privacy Request.” Describe your request and provide enough information for us to identify the relevant record. We may take reasonable steps to verify your identity and authority. We will not unlawfully discriminate against you for exercising an applicable privacy right. Authorized agents may submit requests where permitted by law, but we may require proof of authority and direct verification.

You can control many cookies through your browser settings and, when available, the Site’s cookie or privacy-choice tool. Blocking cookies may affect Site functionality. Where legally required and technically supported, we will process recognized opt-out preference signals, such as Global Privacy Control, as requests to opt out of sale or sharing for the browser or device that sends the signal.

8. Data Retention

We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, including fulfillment, constituent administration, marketing, relationship management, analytics, security, dispute resolution, and legal compliance. Retention periods vary by data type and context. We may retain limited records of opt-outs, privacy requests, transactions, or disputes as necessary to document compliance and protect our rights.

9. Data Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please do not submit sensitive information that the Site does not request.

10. Children’s Privacy

The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 submitted personal information, contact scott@believebolder.com so we can review and, where appropriate, delete it.

11. Third-Party Services and Links

The Site may contain links to third-party websites or use third-party services. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies, not this Policy. We encourage you to review those policies before providing information.

12. United States Operations

The Site is operated from the United States. If you access it from another country, your information may be processed in the United States and other locations where our service providers operate, which may have different data-protection laws than your location.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised version on the Site and update the Effective Date. If required by law, we will provide additional notice or request consent.

These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of theunofficialmayor.com and any related pages, forms, constituent features, content, and services that link to these Terms (collectively, the “Site”). The Site is operated by Scott Griffin doing business as The Unofficial Mayor (“The Unofficial Mayor,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).

1. Acceptance of These Terms

By accessing or using the Site, submitting a form, or participating in the constituent program, you agree to these Terms and acknowledge our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Site.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and legally capable of agreeing to these Terms. The Site and constituent program are intended for users in the United States. Additional geographic or shipping restrictions may apply and will be disclosed on the signup form.

3. Informal Brand and Non-Affiliation Disclaimer

“The Unofficial Mayor,” “constituent,” “campaign,” and similar terms are used for entertainment, community, and branding purposes only. Participation does not create citizenship, residency, membership in a government body, voting rights, public office, political representation, or any governmental status.

Unless expressly stated otherwise, the Site, Scott, and the The Unofficial Mayor brand are independent and are not sponsored, endorsed, administered by, or affiliated with Costco Wholesale Corporation or any government, municipality, political party, candidate, or public office. Costco and related names, logos, and marks are the property of their respective owners. References to third-party brands are for identification, commentary, or descriptive purposes and do not imply endorsement.

4. Constituent Program

The Site may allow eligible users to register as constituents and receive an assigned constituent ID. You agree to provide accurate, current information and to submit only your own information or information you are authorized to provide.

We may limit registrations, reject duplicate or fraudulent submissions, correct administrative errors, reassign or invalidate IDs, or suspend the program when reasonably necessary. Constituent IDs have no monetary value, are not transferable, and do not confer ownership, membership, voting, political, governmental, or legal rights.

5. Free Campaign Button

Eligible constituents may request one free campaign button while supplies last. No purchase is necessary. Availability, design, quantity, delivery area, and mailing time are not guaranteed. We may substitute, limit, delay, or discontinue the offer at any time, including in response to inventory, fulfillment, suspected abuse, incorrect information, or circumstances beyond our control.

You are responsible for providing a complete and accurate mailing address. We are not responsible for items that are delayed, lost, undeliverable, or misdirected because of inaccurate information, carrier issues, or other circumstances outside our reasonable control. The button is promotional merchandise, has no cash value, and may not be redeemed for money.

6. Constituent Map and Lookup

The Site may display city-level constituent locations and provide a lookup tool that returns limited information for a matching email address. Map points, counts, lookup results, constituent IDs, and other records may contain delays, omissions, or administrative errors and are provided for community and informational purposes only.

You may not use the map or lookup feature to identify, locate, profile, contact, harass, impersonate, or obtain information about another person; build a marketing list; scrape or compile records; or engage in any unlawful or harmful activity.

7. Marketing Communications

If you separately agree to receive marketing emails, you authorize us and our email service provider to send marketing and promotional messages to the email address you provide. Consent to marketing is not a condition of purchase. You may unsubscribe at any time using the link in an email. Unsubscribing from marketing does not prevent us from sending non-promotional messages relating to a button request, partnership inquiry, privacy request, or Site administration.

8. Partnership Inquiries

Brands, agencies, and other potential partners may use the Site to request information or contact Scott’s team. Submitting an inquiry does not create an agency, employment, endorsement, partnership, fiduciary, exclusivity, or other contractual relationship and does not guarantee a response, availability, rate, or engagement. Any engagement must be set out in a separate written agreement signed by authorized parties.

Do not submit confidential, proprietary, embargoed, or trade-secret information through a general inquiry form. Unless we separately agree in writing, we have no confidentiality obligation regarding unsolicited inquiry materials.

9. Intellectual Property

The Site and its content, including text, graphics, photographs, video, design, logos, button artwork, branding, software, and arrangement, are owned by or licensed to us and are protected by intellectual-property laws. Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to access and use the Site for personal, noncommercial purposes.

You may not copy, reproduce, modify, distribute, sell, license, publicly display, create derivative works from, or exploit Site content without prior written permission, except as permitted by law. Third-party names and marks remain the property of their respective owners.

10. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use the Site for unlawful, fraudulent, deceptive, abusive, harassing, or harmful purposes.
• Submit false information, impersonate another person, or register another person without authorization.
• Attempt to obtain more than the permitted number of buttons or constituent IDs through duplicate, automated, or deceptive submissions.
• Scrape, crawl, harvest, copy, or compile Site content or constituent information by automated or systematic means without written permission.
• Interfere with the Site, introduce malicious code, probe security, bypass access controls, or place an unreasonable load on systems.
• Use the Site or its content to train an automated system or model, create a competing database, or send unsolicited marketing.
• Misrepresent an affiliation with Scott, The Unofficial Mayor, Costco, a government, or any third party.

11. Third-Party Services and Links

The Site may use or link to third-party services, websites, maps, social platforms, and tools. We do not control and are not responsible for third-party content, availability, security, products, or practices. Your use of third-party services may be governed by separate terms and policies.

12. Site Availability and Changes

We may modify, suspend, restrict, or discontinue any part of the Site, constituent program, lookup, map, partnership process, or button offer at any time. We do not guarantee that the Site will always be available, secure, accurate, complete, or free from errors.

13. Disclaimers

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE SITE, CONTENT, CONSTITUENT PROGRAM, MAP, LOOKUP, AND CAMPAIGN BUTTONS ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. WE DISCLAIM IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, ACCURACY, AND QUIET ENJOYMENT. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW CERTAIN DISCLAIMERS, SO SOME OF THE ABOVE MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.

14. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE UNOFFICIAL MAYOR, SCOTT, AND THEIR AFFILIATES, TEAM MEMBERS, CONTRACTORS, LICENSORS, AND SERVICE PROVIDERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, LOST DATA, LOSS OF GOODWILL, OR BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE SITE OR THESE TERMS, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THEIR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE SITE OR THESE TERMS WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US TO USE THE SITE DURING THE SIX MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM OR (B) FIFTY U.S. DOLLARS (US $50). SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW CERTAIN LIMITATIONS, SO SOME OF THE ABOVE MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.

15. Indemnification

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless The Unofficial Mayor, Scott, and their affiliates, team members, contractors, licensors, and service providers from claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and reasonable costs, including attorneys’ fees, arising from your violation of these Terms, misuse of the Site, infringement of another person’s rights, or information you submit. This section does not require you to indemnify a party for its own unlawful conduct where prohibited by law.

16. Suspension and Termination

We may restrict or terminate your access to the Site or constituent program if we reasonably believe you violated these Terms, created risk or legal exposure, abused an offer, threatened Site security, or engaged in harmful conduct. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination will survive, including intellectual property, disclaimers, limitations of liability, indemnification, and dispute provisions.

17. Governing Law and Venue

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute not resolved informally must be brought in the state or federal courts located in Los Angeles, California, and each party consents to their jurisdiction and venue, except where applicable consumer law requires otherwise.

18. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms by posting a revised version on the Site and changing the Effective Date. Changes apply prospectively from the stated effective date. Your continued use of the Site after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms to the extent permitted by law.

19. General Terms

These Terms and the Privacy Policy constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Site, except for any separate written agreement that applies to a partnership or service. If any provision is found unenforceable, it will be modified only to the minimum extent necessary and the remaining provisions will remain in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms without our written consent; we may assign them in connection with a business transaction or by operation of law.
